This past Saturday I had the privilege of attending the Refer.com Profit Partner’s Summit as an Inner Circle Influencer and invited guest. The core principle of Refer.com is to provide a CRM-type experience for personal, quality business connections on a referral basis. The Summit provided an opportunity to learn more about the company and its capabilities. I needed to fly from LA to Phoenix thereby subjecting myself to the chaos of LAX on a Friday afternoon for an all business weekend. No college ball, hockey, or NFL games. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
NETWORKING VS. CONNECTING
We all attend networking events. The question is, are you connecting? AMA Los Angeles takes pride in our connection-driven networking events as we refuse to waste people’s time. Likewise, connecting and making referrals that count is the foundation of the Refer.com community. Even better, they provide a system to do it and that’s the key to their platform.
THE VIEW FROM THE SUMMIT
The speakers were visionary, inspirational and educational. This was especially true for the keynote speech delivered by Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series among other amazing endeavors. I took copious notes which of course resulted in writer’s cramp from using my notebook, as in pen & paper. In addition to Mark’s entire speech, a few of my key takeaways were:

Both of Brandon’s premises seem simple enough, but putting them into practice is the hard part. That, my friends, is the essence of Refer.com; put a referral and relationship system in place.
In my personal experience (and data supports it), referrals can be the best source of new business. While LinkedIn and other social media platforms certainly play a role in business relationships, Refer.com is the missing tool from the proverbial toolbox, and I’m so glad I booked that flight! Community is the new currency and I intend to start banking it.
