Philip Rebentisch, President

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
When I first became aware of the chapter, I was astounded at the high level of educational content provided at the events. To this day, high standards are our top priority because no one wants to waste their time at an underwhelming educational event, social mixer, or community service event. Plus, everyone I’ve met is so nice! That’s important to me.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment.
Why did you want to serve the chapter?
This year, our chapter’s primary theme is member engagement as we want our amazing members to embrace the fact that this is their chapter! The board and officers have a duty to provide exemplary content, networking and volunteer opportunities that appeal to the membership. That’s why I’m involved!

What is your professional background?
I was a TV & film writer-producer-director in entertainment, education, PR, and marketing. I loved it all! After the birth of my twin girls, I got off the production roller coaster and took a job on the legal side of the fence as a media professional with production insight. I’ve had fun reviewing advertising & marketing campaigns from many agencies. It’s been an excellent experience seeing what works and what doesn’t, and yes, I get paid to watch commercials and surf the web.

When I’m not working I am…
with my amazing wife and girls or riding a Triumph motorcycle!

My favorite food is…
anything in a tortilla with salsa!

Ece Klippsten, Immediate Past President

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
AMA has been in my life for more than 10 years, starting with the collegiate chapter of my university, where I served as a president. Right after moving to LA from Chicago, I decided to join the AMA Los Angeles chapter to network, learn, and of course to feed the great feelings of AMA nostalgia.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
Honestly, mostly for the love of American Marketing Association. But also, I wouldn’t know any better way to get deeply involved in the local marketing community. Being a member is a fabulous opportunity of course, but having the honor to lead a highly involved, successful chapter such as AMA Los Angeles is a lifelong learning opportunity.

What is your professional background?
Brand marketing is my cup of tea. I particularly love working with successful physical products that I’ve previously used and been impressed by, which led me to work for both Dyson (fancy vacuums and fans) and Elkay (fancy faucets and fixtures).

When I’m not working I am…
Cooking up a storm or enjoying the company of my toddler daughter, who has taught me to appreciate whole new categories of marketing (baby food, baby books, baby toys, baby clothes… you get the picture!)

My favorite food is…
Everything carbs!

Rachel Guida, Secretary

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
When moving from New Jersey to Los Angeles I knew that I wanted to become a member of AMA Los Angeles. Having been involved in the AMA at a collegiate level I knew the added value the organization would have to my professional and personal development. My favorite part of AMA is workshops and educational events. I always love learning more about marketing, especially since it is an ever changing industry. Being a part of the AMA has kept me on my toes and has increased my knowledge and understanding of all aspects of current marketing trends.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
During my four years at Rider University I was heavily involved in my collegiate chapter of the AMA – my senior year I was President. I always felt that being a part of such an organization would help grow my personal and professional skill sets beyond what most jobs would be able to provide me. I knew I would be able to meet new people and gain more experience in the industry by getting more involved. I also feel that the importance of having an AMA Chapter in Los Angeles is significant to the growth of the industry in our local area.

What is your professional background?
I graduated Rider University in 2013 with a B.S.B.A, majoring in Marketing and Advertising as well as a concentration in Design and Public Relations. For over four years I have consulted several small businesses in various aspects of marketing. While living in New Jersey I worked for two years at a physician management company coordinating all marketing efforts and new business strategies. My most recent job is at The Reconnection, an energy healthcare company that holds training programs for practitioners around the world. I work directly with the Executive Director on all executive projects and new business as well as oversee all marketing campaigns and strategies.

When I’m not working I am…
Watching Netflix, cooking something new, jamming out to music or playing board games.

My favorite food is…
Mashed Potatoes.

Emmanuel Probst, VP Collegiate Relations

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
I was a member of the Chicago Chapter prior to moving to Los Angeles. AMA is a great place to learn, meet marketing processionals and engage in community outreach. To the best of my knowledge, it is the only marketing oriented group that combines all three aspects.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
I have been involved simultaneously in academia and business for over 10 years. Leading collegiate relations for our chapter is a great way to leverage that experience and help bridge the gap between students and practitioners.
What is your professional background?
Emmanuel’s background combines over 12 years of market research experience with strong academic achievements.
Through his professional career, he has developed expertise in consumer and business insights, political polling, client and employee satisfaction and advertising research. His doctoral research focused on the experiential aspect of consumption and the impact consumption has on consumers’ identity formation.
Emmanuel supports numerous Fortune 500 companies by providing them with a full understanding of their customer journey, from brand awareness to purchase and recommendation. His clients span across a wide range of industries, including Consumer Package Goods, Retail, Financial Services, Advertising agencies and Media outlets.
As a lecturer, Emmanuel prides himself in demystifying marketing and market research by using simple terms to explain complex concepts. He believes in teaching skills that are practical and actionable: upon completing the course, students will be able to immediately implement in the work place what they learned in class. Emmanuel makes the learning experience fun and engaging by combining foundational knowledge with real-life case studies. Students are expected to contribute to the class by sharing experiences drawn from their professional or personal background.
Emmanuel holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Hull, UK and a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Nottingham Trent, UK. He enjoys traveling, running and going to the beach with his wife and two sons.

Darrell Alphonso, VP Communications

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
The American Marketing Association is the largest marketing organization in the world, and it promotes a strong culture of professional and academic development. Looking at AMA Los Angeles at the chapter level, I was drawn by the energy of the members and the caliber of the educational and networking events. Los Angeles is surging with new brands, new marketing companies, and new talent – AMA Los Angeles is THE group to be a part of!

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
To me, the best way to achieve great things is in the service of others. AMA Los Angeles has such an altruistic purpose of connecting marketers and helping them grow – I find this cause inspiring and am constantly charged with new ideas to spread this initiative further. The lead communications seat on the board appealed to me because it touches all the major growth and engagement initiatives of the association and would allow me to leverage my passion for digital in a very tangible way.

What is your professional background?
I have been in digital marketing for several years. I’ve earned a master’s in Marketing Management and two marketing technology certifications. After leading marketing at a high-growth SAAS start-up, I moved to Los Angeles to develop demand generation campaigns for Demand Media, a content and marketplace business. My current role is leading marketing automation programs for Connexity, a global marketing and data solutions company.

When I’m not working I am…
….A voracious reader! Especially non-fiction: business, leadership, philosophy, and skills development. I also enjoy foot races of all kinds (mud runs, marathons, obstacle courses).

My favorite food is…
Popcorn….period.

Christi Turner, VP Community OutreachChristi Turner

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
Well, I love to learn and meet new people. I find the educational events to be inspiring and I
enjoy networking with other marketing professionals.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
I find leadership roles to be challenging and rewarding. As VP of Community Outreach, I have
developed a partnership between the AMA Los Angeles and Ronald McDonald House of Los
Angeles. This partnership offers the unique opportunity to provide marketing services and help
the families who stay at The House, such as serving meals, gardening and planning the inaugural
Reunion event. There will be several first time events that AMA Los Angeles will help develop
and execute. We also have the Pro Bono event where marketers are matched up with non-profits
to provide marketing services. Volunteerism is fulfilling, my goal is to provide new, interesting
activities for our members.

What is your professional background?
Originally, I was interested in a science-based career because of the experimentation and
constant evolution of information. Then a friend explained her marketing classes to me and my
intuition led me to change my major. I started my marketing career in 2003, working for
agencies before transitioning to corporate marketing. My start in agencies provided a solid
foundation for marketing, branding and advertising principles. I feel lucky to have seen the
progression of online marketing and to learn along the way, especially since technology
continues to change the face of Marketing so rapidly.

When I’m not working I am…
Yoga, hiking, enjoying live music, reading a book, hanging out with friends, or just relaxing on a
beach somewhere.

My favorite food is…
Thai food.

When I found AMA Los Angeles, and learned about all the resources and learning events they held constantly I knew I wanted to be a part of it!

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
What the board does as a group is really special, we all take time from our already busy lives to share our passion in marketing, and give back to the marketing community. Being a part of a group that wants to give back is what inspires me and keeps me motivated to contribute my skills to benefit our chapter.

What is your professional background?
Started in Print Advertising in 2007 then made a big transition into digital marketing by 2010. I have a BS in Business Marketing and a certificate in Multimedia Design. I started off working for an agency and have done plenty of freelance and contracted (mostly in video content creation and online campaigns ) work over the years, but I consider my biggest accomplishments achieved as an entrepreneur.

When I’m not working I am…
When I’m not working I’m always learning, I usually obsess over topics and won’t be satisfied until I learn everything about it.  I enjoy reading books related to business, finance, and marketing. I also love the beach and try to spend a lot of time there. Huge fan of music and art, and doing complex home projects with the help of YouTube.

Rob Lawrence, VP Integrated Marketing

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
I’ve been a member of this AMA chapter for over four years now, and I originally joined AMA Los Angeles to build my professional network by connecting with like-minded marketers. My goals were to meet other marketing professionals, to learn new skills, and to hear innovative ideas within the wide world of marketing. Those goals have now all been realized, and I continue to enjoy immensely my experience within the chapter.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
I felt that just being a member of AMA Los Angeles was very valuable. Going to events and meeting other marketers was such a great experience I decided that I should give back to the community that was serving me so well. I also felt that by actively participating in the running of the chapter I’d have opportunities to apply new skills and to learn from other professionals in a very hands-on way. This has proven to be the case.

What is your professional background?
I am currently the Southern California area business development representative for a boutique sales and marketing business intelligence consultancy. We provide analytics strategy, system integration and reporting services to quickly and effectively connect a multitude of customer touchpoint data to uncover hidden insights and improve marketing performance. When I’m not working I am…
…usually at home enjoying time with my girlfriend and two Shih Tzus, or working on a home improvement project in the yard, and sometimes at the studio practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with my team at Gracie Barra Arcadia. Also, I love to travel and visit interesting places that offer great food and wine.

My favorite food is…
My longtime girlfriend is originally from Louisiana, and my favorite dish is her Louisiana Gumbo with tons of andouille sausage and lots of spice, served with garlic bread. Delicious!

Jason Ciment, Treasurer

Why did you join AMA Los Angeles? What appealed to you personally?
I became involved with AMA Los Angeles in order to expand my business network locally with likeminded professionals. With my background as a CPA and Attorney it also helps to be able to bring some added value to the Organization beyond the marketing skills I’ve gained running a digital marketing agency.

Running for election and joining the Board of Directors requires time and commitment. Why did you want to serve the chapter?
I believe in working with local professionals to impact the marketing community. As well I believe that money is not the primary driver of giving back but rather personal involvement and commitment of time and resources.
                                                                                                                                                                                                             What is your professional background?

Most recently I co-founded www.GetVisible.com (formerly www.LaDezign.com) which provides search and social marketing services to clients locally and outside Los Angeles.

When I’m not working I am…
Reading thrillers and historical fiction novels which I’ll soon be reviewing on www.99BookReviews.com! I also love bakeries and will drive miles out of the way for a good one.

My favorite food is
Mac and Cheese of course. But since I can’t eat it often enough, I choose French Vanilla Ice Cream.
