Why did you join the AMA Los Angeles chapter?
I joined AMA Los Angeles mainly to be more involved in local, marketing industry related events. I want to participate in events and meet other marketing professionals in the area.

What is the most valuable part of your AMA Los Angeles membership? How has the AMA helped you in your career?
The workshop events where AMA invites speakers to talk about the latest trends in marketing are the most valuable. My favorite so far was the Mattel brand marketing team talking about how to market Barbie. Not only was it interesting, it also sparked creative ideas, which I was able to take back to my company to inspire my team and our programs.

What other benefits have you seen from your AMA Los Angeles membership?
Meeting other people in the same industry and learning about what they do is instrumental in my career growth and development.

What secrets of success can you give other AMA members who aspire to grow their careers and become leaders in their field?
The secret sauce to marketing success is definitely keeping up with the trends by reading articles, blogs, and books. Technology is evolving fast and keeping up with trends is difficult if you do not know where to look. Luckily, the AMA website offers a plethora of resources and blogs discussing these topics. On social media, following successful and influential people and/or entities like Bill Gates, Google, Forbes, Oprah, Mark Cuban, Times, etc… have been more than useful in gaining not only knowledge, but inspiration.

What is your favorite marketing blog/book/resource?
Since I am in the shopping center/real estate industry, as a Marketing Director, my favorite book has been by Paco Underhill called ‘Why We Buy.’ I also love reading blogs on the AMA website as well as Hubspot. On my mobile device, I often read articles about business and marketing via the Flipboard app.

What is the most valuable part of your AMA Los Angeles membership? How has the AMA helped you in your career?
One of the most valuable aspects of my membership is being able to meet face-to- face with other professional marketers.

What other benefits have you seen from your AMA Los Angeles membership?
It allowed me to present on topics relevant to Hispanic marketing.

What secrets of success can you give other AMA members who aspire to grow their careers and become leaders in their field?
The face-to- face interaction is a valuable proposition for marketing newcomers as they get a chance to hear from experienced professionals the “ins and outs” of the profession, regardless of the marketing discipline.

What is your favorite marketing blog/book/resource?
My favorite book is Brand Sense by Martin Lindstrom.

Why did you join the AMA Los Angeles chapter?
I have always wanted to join AMA. I attended a AMA Los Angeles social last year to get a feel for the group and meet some of the members, and I came away very impressed. That led me to join the next day.

What is the most valuable part of your AMA Los Angeles membership? How has the AMA helped you in your career?
The most valuable parts for me are the connections with other like-minded individuals who are passionate about marketing, as well as educational events every month. AMA has helped me broaden the scope of my knowledge and provide more value to my clients.

What secrets of success can you give other AMA members who aspire to grow their careers and become leaders in their field?
I would recommend other members get more involved, including volunteering and leadership positions with AMA – which will help them in their careers.

What is your favorite marketing blog/book/resource?
Some of my favorite resources are marketing news from AMA, Chiefmartec, and Mashable.

Why did you join the AMA Los Angeles chapter? I joined the AMA Los Angeles chapter to feel some sort of connection with the marketing community, as opposed to being the marketing representative within an enterprise.

What is the most valuable part of your AMA Los Angeles membership? How has the AMA helped you in your career?

I’ve very much enjoyed exposure to ideas and presentations from fields that are far from my current work, but that often spark new thoughts. I was most impressed by Katie Meier from Initiative, back in October 2014, who was so generous with her time and experience, but I also appreciated hearing about Sizzler’s 15 minutes of viral fame.

What other benefits have you seen from your AMA Los Angeles membership?

I’ve enjoyed getting inside physical spaces I wouldn’t have otherwise seen, like ROC and Expert Dojo, seeing how new companies occupy space.

What secrets of success can you give other AMA members who aspire to grow their careers and become leaders in their field?

I think you have to stay interested in new techniques and new media – they might not always apply to the situation you’re facing, but there’s a danger in being too locked up in your own world.

What is your favorite marketing blog/book/resource?

Given the fragmentation of media I find it helpful to keep an eye on Adweek – they pull together some of the best work I might otherwise not see. I also get MediaPost News emails for the US and UK that help me stay current.
